Night Diving

Many of our guests
ask about the chance of doing night dives, and what do we
usually see on these nocturnal adventures beneath the inky-black
surface. We have a fantastic site for our night dives, filled
with chrinoids, lionfish, eels, sleeping parrotfish and
goatfish, flatworms, cowries and sometimes huge triton shells
on the move.
Photographers can
go at their own pace, taking their time to capture that
perfect photo. With little to no current, and depths between
5-50ft /2-15m, those with cameras can relax and focus (pun
intended) on taking the photos they're after. We offer nights
dives every night of the week, and our minimum number of
divers needed, for ANY of our trips, is just one diver!

None of our dives
are rushed, as we deal with smaller group sizes and in Yap,
nobody should be in a hurry. This is vacation, after all,
and we want our guests to be comfortable and not feel like
they need to finish the dive because "the time is up".
Many of our night dives last 90 minutes or more.
Our night dives include
the use of dive lights, or guests are welcome to use their
own. We use the powerful Toshiba underwater Halogen lights,
bathing the reef in that aqua blue glow making it more likely
to spot even the most elusive critters. Our guides carry
back-up lights, and the dives are usually done inside the
lagoon, providing a safe and calm location for the dives.

We take many divers
on their first night dive ever, and on the brief boat ride
back to the dock their smiling faces (probably because of
the Hot Chocolate we serve) tell tales of incredible new
sights and experiences ranging from new found friends among
the reef inhabitants to the experience of being underwater
at night to surfacing to a dark sky filled with millions
of stars and constellations they've only dreamed about.
Night dives present
divers with a new perspective of the underwater realm, one
that is rarely seen. The nighttime critters become active
as the daytime activity settles into the serentity of the
tranquil, darkened sea. Join us for a night dive or two
on your visit to Yap, and see what all the excitement is
really about!
