Divers' eGuide to Yap

Check out "The Deeper Side of Yap", a comprehensive dive and snorkeling eguide to Yap's most popular sites.

Macro Life in Yap

Sure, everyone comes to Yap to see the mantas, sharks, and eagle rays, but what about the little stuff? The reefs in Yap have an abundance of "macro-size" critters, everything from lionfish and mandarinfish, to crocodilefish, gobies and mantis shrimp. Nudibranchs and anemones abound. Garden eels are common in the sand patches, and juvenile scorpionfish are just minutes from our dock. Beyond The Reef has several sites close by that are a macro photographers dream. Perfect for those afternoon or early evening dives. The dives are shallow with little current and are ideal for settling onto the sandy sea floor and watching or photographing these wondrous subjects. A sharp eye and keen sense of exploration will yield a diverse and ample supply of animals.
